Leading the way in green innovations – The EC-Drives programme

28. 11. 2023 | Karmen Nastran

The story of the EC-Drives programme within Domel is a tale of dedication, innovation and progress. Their journey to the forefront of the market for EC motors in ventilation and air conditioning promises even greater success in the future.

Origins and Vision

The history of EC motors and controllers for fan drives dates back to 1993, when Domel developed their first EC motor and controller. They initially focused on small-scale production, which continued until 2008. With the introduction of the new AZ motor generation, they began medium-scale production. In 2021, the management of the business unit was entrusted to Sandi Dolenc. On average, the programme has seen more than 15% annual growth.

The Power of Collaboration

The ECP business unit comprises around 60 dedicated employees from various departments, including development, sales, technology and production. Supporting departments such as logistics, planning and procurement ensure smooth operations. Regular development meetings and interactions between development and sales create opportunities for the exchange of ideas and team-building, occasionally accompanied by joint events.

Applications

EC motors find applications in diverse environments, from commercial to industrial facilities. They are installed in ventilation systems, air conditioning units and air recovery units. Their versatility results in energy savings in various applications.

International Sales

In 2023, the largest markets for EC-Drives are:

Diverse Product Portfolio

EC-Drives proudly stand among the market leaders in terms of high efficiency and top quality. Their motors cover a broad power range, from 300 W to 45 kW, tailored to the premium segment, which demands the highest quality and long lifespan. Their product portfolio is highly diverse, with individual families of EC motors meeting the requirements of specific market niches.

Innovations Shaping the Future

ECP doesn’t settle for simply following trends. Combining sales and development, they successfully identify the technical needs of the market and develop innovative motors that meet customer demands. Their success is rooted in adapting to market needs and developing proprietary solutions. In terms of efficiency, the motors exceed the specifications of the energy class IE5.

Shared Space for Growth

For efficient operations and innovations, the ECP business unit has established production, quality control, technology and development at the same location. In 2021, they moved to a new, larger location in Reteče, enabling further growth and development.

Dynamic Production and Expert Support

Production of EC motors in the ECP business unit is medium-scale and encompasses over 300 different motor variations. This diversity allows for production adjustments based on customer requirements, including winding, rotor and stator assembly, and motor assembly. In collaboration with customers, they provide technical consultation and calculate the lifespan of motors and energy savings to optimize solutions.

Keywords: EC motor, electronically commutated motor, motors for ventilation and air conditioning, efficiency class IE5

C1D2 Ventilation Motors: High Protection, High Efficiency, Built for Demanding Environments

Industrial ventilation in demanding environments leaves no room for compromise. Wherever there is a risk of flammable gases or vapours being present, the system must operate reliably and without any risk of ignition. Motors designed for Class 1 Division 2 (C1D2) environments are a direct response to these requirements.
